The La Stele is a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 16 months in oak casks, of which one-third are new. An ambitious, Bordelais-styled red, it offers a dark ruby/purple color and notes of red and black currants intermixed with tobacco leaf, licorice, and spice box. The 2001 appears to be a brilliant, potentially outstanding effort with great density, richness, and length. It should last for 10-12 years.
