Barbi (Vignagrande)

Umbria, though not as famous as nearby Tuscany, is fortunate to share both geological and climactic similarities with its more well-known neighbor. These advantages give the area the capacity to make excellent wine and recent vinous developments have provided encouragement that the region is headed in a more quality-minded direction.

Within Umbria, Enzo Barbi started his winery in 1932 through the acquisition of his vineyard in the village of Baschi. The property is situated at an altitude of nearly 300 meters above sea level and has clay and limestone soil. The winery’s slopes face south east and south west, giving the vines optimum exposure to the sunlight. In addition ideal soil and exposition, Barbi also enjoys good airflow throughout the vineyards, minimizing the possibility of pests and disease, and all those elements determine the ideal condition to produce an excellent wine.

The harvest is done manually and separately for each grapes variety. Besides using his own production, Barbi also purchases some high quality grapes from an independent producer to meet the demand for his wines. The ideal combination between expertise and quality has helped Barbi become known worldwide and the winery is proud to be exported to 30 different countries around the world.
