Frenchman Thierry Janots and Dutchman Richard Bos share a passion for Burgundian wines. They originally met as classmates in 1996 at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Since graduating from the winemaking program there, Thierry has worked for numerous famous wineries such as Joseph Drouhin, Louis Latour, and Domaine des Comtes Lafon, while Richard bought and ran a café in Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Neither lost sight of their desire to make their own wine and in 2005, they partnered to create a winery in Meursault.

 

Although deterred for a decade from their winemaking dream, the duo now utilizes their individual talents to complement each other perfectly, as Thierry focuses on the technical aspects and Richard on the marketing and commercial activities. By 2008, their winery on the Rue de Martray in Meursault became too small. After looking around, they came across a beautiful winery and in July they moved … just across the street. Their new winery has provided them with plenty of room to grow in the coming years.

 

At JanotsBos, quality is paramount – no detail is too small. Even with their ideal location in Burgundy and their amazing conditions, they believe it is up to them, the winemakers, to make the best wine possible. Meursault, along with its neighbors Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, forms the most famous white wine production area in Burgundy.  JanotsBos strives to make wines with a sense of place which express the soil and climate optimally. The wines are matured in French oak, which adds structure and finesse, but will never dominate the wine. They strive for natural wines of the highest quality by avoiding additives and superfluous manipulations. JanotsBos embodies a pure style that focuses on expressing the terroir.
