Founded in 1826 by Jérôme Médeville, a barrel cooper from the Cadillac region of Acquitaine, Château Medéville has been crafting fine Bordeaux for seven generations. Originally situated on 12 contiguous hectares of vineyard, Château Fayau (the largest label of the property and heart of the domaine) now spans 180 hectares under vine. Currently run by Jean, Jacques, and Marc Medéville, it is located south of the city of Bordeaux and encompasses terroirs on both sides of the Garonne River.

Jean Médeville et Fils has always taken a modern approach to the production of high quality value-driven Bordeaux with up-to-date facilities and equipment. That said, they maintain elements of tradition during the winemaking process; the wines follow rigorous guidelines at every stage during viticulture and vinification. The resulting wines are accessible Bordeaux bottlings of varietal correctness that punch well above their weight class. Their Bordeaux Rouge is an assemblage of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, while the Blanc is 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Sémillon, and 10% Muscadelle.

For almost a year now, Medéville has been working closely with an environmental group called SME, (Système de Management Environnemental) and other winemakers in the area to establish specific guidelines that limit the impact of their activity on the environment and maximize sustainability. The end result is the ISO certificate (International Standard Organisation) 14001, an internationally recognized certificate for environmentally friendly management.

Médeville now produces in High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3. It is a new step for them to protect the environment and to to continue to be in sustainable for the Châteaux, employees and consumers. HVE is the highest level for the environmental certification of farms. the certification is a voluntary approach which aims to identify and promote particularly environmentally friendly practices applied by farmers and winegrowers. HVE covers four key areas: biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, managed fertilizer use, and water resource management.

In 2019, Terre de Vins selected Médeville as one of the top 100 French vineyards prioritizing the environment. In 2020, the estate is scheduled to receive their AB Organic certificate.

It is thanks to this careful balance of modern methods coupled with traditional ways that the Jean Médeville et Fils has established its reputation over two centuries and continues to satisfy a large customer base globally.
